This song is a bit different from the ones I normally post in that the lyrics don’t directly quote Scripture, but the lyrics are based on Scriptural truths. Here’s a great article that details the Scriptural basis for this song:
Keith Getty & Stuart Townend - In Christ Alone
Because we’ve been studying the wrath of God, I wanted to share this song that talks about the wrath of God being satisfied through Jesus’ death on the cross. This concept is supported by several verses. A couple are highlighted here.
Colossians 2:13-14: 13Â When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins, 14Â having canceled the charge of our legal indebtedness, which stood against us and condemned us; he has taken it away, nailing it to the cross.
Hebrews 9:27-28: 27Â Just as people are destined to die once, and after that to face judgment, 28Â so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him.
Romans 5:9: Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God’s wrath through him!
1 Thessalonians 1:10: and to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead—Jesus, who rescues us from the coming wrath.
