1 John 2:24-25 (NIV, 1984 version):
24 See that what you have heard from the beginning remains in you. If it does, you also will remain in the Son and in the Father. 25 And this is what he promised us—even eternal life.
Here’s the concept map I created for this verse:
Here is an image of my verse map for 1 John 2:24-25. I will also type out what I have written for easier reading.
Keep in mind that a lot of my writing is shorthand or bullet points rather than complete thoughts or sentences due to limited space in the journal. That shorthand is reflected in the content I have typed out.

YLT: 24 Ye, then, that which ye heard from the beginning, in you let it remain; if in you may remain that which from the beginning ye did hear, ye also in the Son and in the Father shall remain, 25 and this is the promise that He did promise us -- the life the age-during.

Psalm 119:11: I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.
Hide God’s word in your heart.
John 15:1-17: 15 “I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. 2 He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful. 3 You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you. 4 Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.
5 “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. 6 If you do not remain in me, you are like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned. 7 If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. 8 This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples.
9 “As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love. 10 If you keep my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commands and remain in his love. 11 I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete. 12 My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. 13 Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. 14 You are my friends if you do what I command. 15 I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you. 16 You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last—and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you. 17 This is my command: Love each other.

Message heard from the beginning: love one another
*I came a cross so many passages about the promise of eternal life. I couldn’t include them all here.
View of God
God is from the beginning, and he teaches us what we need to know to have eternal life. He wants to have a relationship with us - for us to remain in him. The Father and Son are one. God keeps his promises. God is the only one who can give eternal life.
View of Man/Self
As humans, we have the ability to hear and understand what has been said and to remember and obey. We have the choice to remain in God or not. We have the gift of eternal life if we choose to remain.
Reflection and Application
What is the message we have heard from the beginning? 1 John 3:11 clarifies: love one another. John 15 goes into more detail - As we remain in God’s love, we will show that love to others. As we go throughout our days, we need to remember this command and put it into practice. As we continue to remain in God - both Father and Son - we will be assured that we will receive eternal life.
Prayer
Lord, thank you that you have given us your message - love one another as I have loved you. I pray that I would remain in your love and show that love to the people around me. Thank you for the promise of eternal life. This is one of the greatest promises you have given. Help me not to take it for granted but to seek you all my life.
While I was working through this verse map, I also started reading Jeremiah. The beginning chapters of Jeremiah show the opposite site to this passage. The contrast is so clear.
In 1 John 2:24-25, it tell us that if we remember what we have heard from the beginning, we will remain in Jesus and God, and we will have eternal life.
In Jeremiah, the people have forgotten God. They do not remain in him but instead go chasing after other gods. The result is punishment and God turning away from them.
